Beverly Stadum – One Picture a Day
Born in 1945 in Rugby, North Dakota
Occupation: Retired university professor
Beverly’s mother was born in the USA but her mother’s parents had come from Nordfjord on the west coast of Norway. Beverly’s father was born in the USA but his father and grandparents had emigrated from Gran in Hadeland in the south of Oppland.
After marrying a Norwegian, Beverly moved from the USA to a farm in Øyer in Gudbrandsdal in August 2005.
When she moved to Øyer she wanted to become more familiar with her new homeland and therefore used a camera to take one photograph each day. She discovered the surrounding landscape, seasonal changes, the beauty a dandelion can give an early spring day, the impact of light, and the lines of trees.
She had lived her whole life in towns and cities. To live on the countryside was a new experience. Beverly was struck by the beauty and peace. It is beauty that people who live here perhaps take for granted?
With some of the daily pictures taken between January 1 and December 31st in 2006, she created a photo exhibit to hang in the farm’s empty barn. Early in July 2007 she invited friends and neighbors to the barn to share in her discoveries. The exhibit with her commentary gave a glimpse of what first caught her attention in Norway.
