Kaare Kristian Nygaard - the catalogue
PREFACE
Before he passed away, Kaare Nygaard had decided to give his book collection and archives to Lillehammer, the town where he was born and raised. Dr. Nygaard did not live to see his gift arrive there, but today his entire book collection is to be found at Nansenskolen(The Nansen college) in Lillehammer. The college is also the home of many of his sculptures, and others are placed at Lillehammer High School, Lillehammer Art Museum and Lillehammer County Hospital. The archive of patients from his long professional life as doctor and surgeon fills 13 file cabinets. This material was transferred to Riksarkivet, Oslo (The National Archives) September 10, 1991. Information from this archive is not included in this catalogue.
The private and business archives of Kaare Nygaard are deposited at Opplandsarkivet, Maihaugen, Lillehammer under the signature of A-00619 Nygaard, Kaare. This catalogue gives a survey of the material. The archival material was deposited through several accessions, the last August 30, 1994. The material consists of 92 boxes, filling 9,6 shelf meters.
The material is organised as it was when delivered to the archive. Each box and file has its number, to facilitate access when searching for a special theme. The list is consecutive. Sometimes a thematic search may be helpful. A thematic list will be found at the end of the catalogue. The entire archive is restricted, implying that access is not automatic. Confidential material has more severe restrictions, and is marked "claused" to the right.
This catalogue is published in 30 copies, funded by The foundation of the preservation of Kaare Nygaard's gift to Lillehammer.
